Parking along east Noble Ave. will be going away

Parking along Noble Ave. (Highway 33) will be prohibited for motorists in a nine block stretch. Officials say this will help increase traffic flow on the highway.

On Tuesday evening, the Guthrie city council unanimously (6-0) agreed with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and City staff on restriping the road, adding center turn lanes and eliminating on-street parking.

ODOT will begin their 2017 summer striping program and will add a 10 foot center turn lane on Noble Ave. between Wentz St. and Drexel St. The 10 foot center lane will be similar to the turn lane on S. Division.

Officials, along with the Guthrie police and fire departments, agree a center turn lane will help alleviate traffic backup.

A timeline was not given for the project.

The City agreed to add no parking signs to inform motorists of the parking ordinance once the striping has been completed.
