Last week Guthrie Public Schools received their net assessment valuation from Logan County indicating an approximate 6 percent growth within the Guthrie school district.
Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson shared the latest information with the Board of Education on Monday night during his Superintendent’s Report.
According to the Logan County Assessor’s Office report to the Excise Board, the Guthrie school district has a net valuation of $146,362,628 compared to the last report of $137,797,249.
Simpson said that’s an important item for several reasons.
“Growth of that level makes us less reliant on state aid and more reliant local revenue sources, which helps us in the mid-year revenue cuts that we have experienced.”
Simpson continued, “We built in an amount of growth and this amount exceeds what was built into the financial model when we first put this all together.”
What does that mean?
“It’s good news for our patroons because we are out pacing what we anticipated on our growth which helps to help pay that (school bond) back with less debt,” Simpson said.
Ultimately, keeping property taxes a touch lower.
Patrons of Guthrie Public Schools overwhelmingly approved a $16.2 million bond issue on May 12, 2015.
