After the Logan County Election Board finalizes the numbers, Guthrie resident AJ Griffin will take the seat of the State Senate next week.
Griffin, R-Guthrie, unofficially took nearly 80% of the vote as she defeated Democratic nominee Magnus Scott D-Langston for the State Senate District 20 seat in her first ever political race.
Griffin will be sworn in next week after election results are certified April 10th by the state Election Board. The initial voting numbers show Griffin receiving 3,049 votes and Scott 807.
The new Senate District 20 post covers Logan, Noble and Pawnee counties and parts of Kingfisher County. Griffin carried all four counties comfortably, including 1,734-465 in Logan, 561-134 in Noble, 440-65 in Kingfisher and 314-143 in Payne.
“I am thrilled with the outcome of the election and anxious to get busy serving the people of the 20th District,” Griffin said from her watch party via text message to Guthrie News Page.
Griffin, 43, won 40 percent of the vote among three other candidates in the February primary while Scott was unopposed.
The post became vacant when Sen. David Myers, R-Ponca City, died November 11th. The term is set to expire in 2014
