The Guthrie High School boys track team claimed one of the four Class 5A regional championships over the weekend and will look to compete for the upcoming state championship.
Guthrie collected 121 team points to win the team title by edging out Collinsville by two points.
Seniors Mason Barney and Kaiden Ballard-Stevenson helped led the way for the Jays in team points by each claiming two individual titles.
Barney won the 1600 meter run (4:37.82) and the 3200 meter run (10:10.40).
Ballard-Stevenson won both the high jump and the long jump.
The Jays relay teams were also stellar.
The team of Mason Tilley, Kaiden Ballard-Stevenson, Isaiah Hammons and Jaylen Chelf won the 4×100 relay with a time of 43.59.
Guthrie claimed the 4×200 relay race. Tilley, Chelf, Tyrin Eaton and Ballard-Stevenson secured the win in a time of 1:32.56.
The state meet will take place in Ardmore on May 15.
Lady Jays take fourth
The Lady Jays finished in a tie for fourth overall in team points with Grove. Sapulpa won the regional title and was followed up by Shawnee and Claremore.
Highlighting the day for Guthrie was Ilaria Pastena, who won the 100 meter dash.
Cheyenne Gaymon also made a statement by finishing second in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles.
