The Guthrie Bluejays rolled to a 60-8 Homecoming win over John Marshall on Friday night inside Jelsma Stadium. Nine different Bluejays found the end zone in a complete team effort.
Senior Amare Watson highlighted the night with two scores, including an 85-yard kickoff return that quickly erased the Bears’ only momentum after their lone touchdown.
The Jays opened strong on their first drive, capped by a 9-yard touchdown reception from senior Owen Wilder. Guthrie extended the lead in the first quarter with two short touchdown runs from senior Zane Thomas and sophomore Elijah Payne.
The scoring continued in the second quarter as junior quarterback Daelon Rice powered in from 2 yards and Elijah Smith added a 3-yard touchdown run. The Jays carried a commanding 42-8 lead into halftime.
In the second half, senior Jace Rainwater juked his way to a 25-yard score, followed by Watson’s second touchdown on a 13-yard run. Guthrie’s defense capped off the night with two more scores.
The Bluejays have now won three straight games, improving to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in District 5A-2. John Marshall dropped to 1-3 and 0-1 in district play.
Next up, Guthrie hits the road for a district matchup at Noble with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Friday.
