The Central Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up board recently approved a $2,000 grant to Guthrie FFA to help fund the addition of a new greenhouse and aquaponic growing system.
Guthrie FFA is an agricultural science program designed to develop students’ potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The grant will help further develop the horticulture aspect of the agricultural education program and allow hands-on learning experiences for the eighth grade and freshman introductory courses.
The greenhouse will serve as a teaching laboratory and will house the aquaponic system. The aquaponic system has the potential to host several supervised agricultural experiences and agriscience projects. In addition, it will provide a hands-on application of subjects, including aquaculture, vegetable production and natural resources.
Central Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up® (previously the Community Foundation of Central Electric Cooperative) is a charitable organization that distributes funds to individuals and organizations throughout the communities within Central’s service area. Independent of Central Electric Cooperative, the Operation Round Up board administers the program, making grants available from money donated by Central members who choose to round up their electric bill to the nearest dollar. Visit www.MyCentral.coop and click on the “Community” tab located at the top of the page for more information about Operation Round Up®.
