Guthrie Fire Department plays active role in 9/11 Stair Climb

A total of seven Guthrie firefighters were involved with Saturday’s promise to “Never Forget” as they honored FDNY 343 in the annual 9/11 Stair Climb.

Firefighters from across the state made their way to downtown Oklahoma City to climb 110 floors inside the Chase Building while wearing their full bunker gear.

The annual event honors the 343 firefighters that lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks.

A Oklahoma firefighter participated in the 2011 Dallas Stair Climb and decided to bring it to OKC. The first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event occurred on September 11, 2003 during “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Parwan Province, Afghanistan.

Proceeds benefit the Oklahoma Firefighter Foundation.

Five firefighters from the Guthrie Fire Department made the track up the stairs, including Drew Rupert (paramedic), Jessica Wilton (paramedic), Drew Hymer (EMT), Blake Braden (paramedic) and Colton Sanderson (AEMT).

Guthrie firefighters Sam Kohler and James Novick, both paramedics, help coordinate the committee for the Stair Climb.
