Guthrie High School’s Lamarc Allison to play at Langston

The Langston University Department of Athletics managed to sign nine in-state recruits for National Signing Day. 

The nine Oklahoma players are just a sample of a great recruiting class that was hauled in by Langston University Head Coach Mickey Joseph, coming in his first offseason at the helm of the Lions’ program.

Joseph said that his signing will help to fortify his team in what will be a quest to win another conference championship in the NAIA’s Central States Football League in 2012.

“What we tried to do is we tried to get the good talent out of this state,” said the Louisiana native in an online video that was uploaded to YouTube late on National Signing Day.  “If anybody doesn’t know anything about Oklahoma, they do play good football here.  You just gotta find them, and I think that’s what our staff did.  It’s a good recruiting class for us with in-state kids.

One of the biggest signings amongst the Langston Oklahomans was Lamarc Allison, a starting tight end for the 2011 Class 5A State Champion Guthrie Bluejays that completed their second undefeated season in school history at 14-0.  Allison stopped by the Langston University Football Facility for pictures this afternoon, and said in an online interview that he was excited to play at Langston since he felt like he was back at home.

Allison said that he learned a lot at Guthrie under the tutelage of Head Coach Rafe Watkins.

“Playing for Coach Watkins was amazing, and he is a great coach,” Allison said.  “I learned a lot from the coaching staff over there. They teach you a lot of things.  They just don’t get mad at you for something that you may mess up on.  If you have a little miscue, they’ll just pull you to the side and tell you everything that you need to work on.”

Rochelle Allison, Lamarc’s mother, said that Lamarc always had an interest in Langston, since he spent much of his childhood nearby living in Coyle.

“He actually let us know for sure probably about a week ago, maybe a little longer,” Allison said.  “He had always been interested in Langston, but we have received assurance for about a week or two.”
