The Guthrie city council announced their new city manager at their Tuesday evening scheduled meeting.
Following a 40-minute executive session, the council announced Bruce Johnson will assume the position beginning Aug. 1 with an unanimous vote (6-0). Councilman Brian Bothroyd was absent.
Interim City Manager, Larry Parnell, will continue his role until July 31.
Guthrie News Page confirmed on Tuesday four candidates were interviewed for the position.
“We had a lot of rally good applicants and that was good to see,” Councilman Z Thomas said.
Johnson last served as a city manager with the City of Grove. He resigned from the position on Oct. 9, 2012 after taking the position on July 1, 2007.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he’s currently employed as a solutions consultant for OneSOURCE Managed Services.
Before arriving to Grove, Johnson served as the assistant city manager for Bartlesville, city manager of Dewey and assistant city manager at Mexico, MO.
Johnson, a 1993 graduate of Tahlequah High School, earned his Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1999.
The Guthrie position was opened when Sereniah Breland accepted a similar role in Alvin, TX in May.
