Guthrie Job Corps Center welcomes new Center Director, Saunja Townsend

The Guthrie Job Corps Center is proud to announce the appointment of Saunja Townsend as its new Center Director. An Oklahoma native with roots in Detroit, Michigan, Townsend brings a wealth of experience, a proven track record of success, and a passion for workforce development as she takes the helm of the center.

With 22 years of dedicated service to Job Corps programs across the country, Townsend has positively impacted the lives of countless students. Her career journey began in charter school education, where she cultivated a deep understanding of the transformative power of education and training. Since then, she has held a variety of leadership roles within Job Corps, including Corporate Director, Center Director, Deputy Director, and several management positions spanning student services, education, and career technical training.

Townsend’s extensive experience includes service at Job Corps Centers in Joliet, Gadsden, Detroit, Hartford, San Diego, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, and Ottumwa. Most recently, she served as Operations Director for a Job Corps operator, overseeing centers in Joliet, Illinois, and Gadsden, Alabama. Her leadership philosophy centers on change management, teamwork, and empowering students to achieve their goals.

As the new leader of the Guthrie Job Corps Center, Townsend is committed to forging partnerships with workforce stakeholders across Oklahoma to create pathways to success for students. She envisions the center as a premier resource for employers seeking skilled entry-level workers and a place where students can achieve their dreams through education, training, and career placement.

“I see myself as a dream catcher for the students who choose the Guthrie Job Corps Center,” Townsend stated. “My goal is to lead a team that connects with the community and workforce to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed in today’s dynamic job market.”
