Guthrie product helps win National Championship

The Gametime Stars recently returned home from the USFA 12u “A” World Series in Panama City Beach Florida July 18th- July 24th.

The Stars started off the series with a loss in pool play then came back to win the remaining two pool games. They won the first three bracket play games against teams from Alabama and Tennessee. Friday’s first game ended with a loss against the Texas Rattlers. This put the Stars in the loser’s bracket and set them up to make the greatest come back this group of girls has ever accomplished.

Arriving at the ballpark on Friday the Stars were told that the tournament would finish up on Friday night instead of Saturday because of the threat of Tropical Storm Bonnie.

After the Stars lost their fourth bracket game on Friday they played back to back games to work their way up through the loser’s bracket to make it back to the finals game against the Gulfport Velocity from Gulfport Mississippi.

In order to take first place this team would have to be beat twice. The Championship game was won by the Stars after going into International Tie Breaker. Then the if game was played with the final pitch being thrown at 3:10 am. The girls played 14 hours of softball and won the If game 9-6 to win the 12uA USFA World Series.

Gametime Stars Fastpitch is sponsored by Gametime Sports Academy on 240-and Shields in OKC. The girls are from different communities including Mustang, Bridgecreek , Moore and Guthrie.

Bailey Shaffer from Guthrie plays third base and pitcher. The Stars are a 12u team, but played up 14 u most of the season. They ended their season with a record of 64 wins and 12 losses.

Bailey Shaffer will be an 8th grader at Guthrie Jr. High.
