UPDATE: A 4.7 magnitude quake struck, Monday, at 8:47 p.m. 5 miles NW of Prague, OK. The quake was felt by many in the Guthrie area. That is now three quakes in the last three days.
For the second time in a 24 hour span, Oklahoma and Guthrie have witness an earthquake.
The second quake shook the Guthrie area at 10:53 p.m. and had a magnitude of 5.6 and its epicenter was four miles east of Sparks in Lincoln County, according to the Oklahoma Geological Survey.
It has been reported that the quake was felt in Texas, Arkansas, Kansas and Illinois. The earthquake was three miles deep.
“I thought the wind had picked up, then all of a sudden it felt and sounded like a tree fell on our house! Very scarey when I heard what it was,” Fran McCallan posted on the GNP Facebook page.
The strongest earthquake previously reported was April 9, 1952 in El Reno, according to the geological survey. Its magnitude was 5.50.
The first earthquake was reported at 2:12 a.m. with a 4.7-magnitude. The National Weather Services in Norman, Wichita Falls, Texas, Topeka, Kansas, and Pleasant Hill, Missouri all felt the first tremor. Guthrie feels early morning 4.7 earthquake
It has been reported there have been at least 40 aftershocks recorded since the initial event.
