Guthrie feels early morning 4.7 earthquake

The United States Geological Survey confirmed a 4.7-magnitude earthquake in central Oklahoma on Saturday morning. The quake was felt by many in Guthrie.
 
The epicenter of the quake was about 6 miles north of Prague at 2:12 a.m. There was a second tremor that registered a 3.4 magnitude aftershock at the same location. The earthquake was measured three miles deep.
 
The largest Oklahoma earthquake on record occured on April 9, 1952 in El Reno. The quake registered a 5.5 in the town of El Reno according to the USGS.
 
The National Weather Services in Norman, Wichita Falls, Texas, Topeka, Kansas, and Pleasant Hill, Missouri all felt the first tremor.
 
The Guthrie Police Department received numerous calls on the first tremor, but no one requested medical attention, or had any reports of damage.
 
Social media quickly became the source of information for many people to confirm what they felt was truly an earthquake.
 
About 2:22, Maria Shetley posted, “Ok so I make my post about the earthquake and than see several others post thought for sure ppl would think I was crazy for posting that but I’m glad I’m not crazy!!! Like freaked me out!!! “
 
About 2:23 Zac Ferris posted, “I just felt the earthquake!!!! Summer says I’m crazy and now I see others did too so I’m not crazy!!!!!”

  1. WOW!!! First quake experience tonight. Thought it was the wind but soon found out it was an earthquake. Or was it the LSU fans stomping their feet in victory.
