Guthrie Tennis teams off to a strong start in 2025 season

The Guthrie High School and Junior High tennis teams are making an early impact on the courts, competing in multiple tournaments and bringing home impressive finishes.

On March 1, the Guthrie Girls’ Tennis Team secured a third-place finish at the 16-team Carl Albert Invitational Tournament. Standout performances included Lola Brown, who placed second in No. 1 singles, defeating the tournament’s No. 1 seed from Bishop McGuinness in the semifinals. Hollie Mitchell and Haven Hudson placed fifth in No. 2 doubles, while Aspen Mitchell and Rylee Tobin took fifth in No. 1 doubles. Kenzie Hardesty rounded out the team’s success with a sixth-place finish in No. 2 singles.

In boys’ action at Carl Albert, Cayden Haynes competed in No. 1 singles, while Adam Benton played in No. 2 singles. The duo of Jaxson Mayer and Carson Olmsted earned a fourth-place finish in No. 1 doubles, and Broderric Hanson and Jack Arballo competed in No. 2 doubles.

The Guthrie girls also competed at the Henryetta 16-team Qualifier, where Taylor Shipley and Natalia Acosta placed seventh in No. 1 doubles, and Laina Woodward and Teagan Duehning finished sixth in No. 2 doubles. Savannah Schlueter represented the team in No. 2 singles, while Lillie Benton played in No. 1 singles.

The Junior High Boys’ Tennis Team traveled to Henryetta, with Brennan Williams competing in No. 2 singles. Trenton Edberg and Drake Shelton teamed up for No. 1 doubles, while Cayden Haynes played No. 1 singles. In No. 2 doubles, Nash Huskey and Caden Shipley represented Guthrie.

At the 16-team Ada Tournament, the Lady Jays continued to showcase their skills. Haven Hudson and Hollie Mitchell placed third in No. 2 doubles, while Lola Brown finished sixth in No. 1 singles. Kenzie Hardesty placed eighth in No. 2 singles, and Rylee Tobin and Aspen Mitchell took sixth in No. 1 doubles.

The Junior High Tennis Team competed at the Carl Albert Tournament, where Nash Huskey and Caden Shipley dominated the No. 2 doubles bracket, winning first place. Brennan Williams, Ella Huskey, Drake Shelton, and Trenton Edberg earned a third-place finish in No. 1 doubles. Lillie Benton and Teagan Duehning secured second place in No. 2 doubles, while Bowen Ingram, Marley Aitkens, Savannah Schlueter, and Taylor Shipley also placed second in No. 1 doubles, along with Natalia Acosta.

With a strong start to the season, Guthrie’s tennis teams look to continue their momentum as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
