Guthrie High School’s volleyball program kicked off its second season and first full year of varsity competition with a challenging matchup against the OKC Storm on Monday evening.
The Lady Jays took to the court at the Guthrie Junior High School gymnasium, where all high school and junior games will be played this season.
The evening began with the freshmen team, who struggled in their sets, losing 15-25 and 13-25. The junior varsity team faced similar difficulties, falling 9-25 and 6-25. In the final match, the varsity team fought hard but ultimately dropped all three sets, 13-25, 7-25, and 4-25, to a highly skilled Storm team.
Despite the setbacks, the Lady Jays are eager to bounce back as they prepare to travel to Oklahoma Bible on August 22. The junior varsity game is set to start at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Guthrie Junior High teams will have their first opportunity to compete on their home floor when they host Carl Albert on Tuesday. The seventh grade team starts at 4 p.m. and the eighth grade team at 5 p.m.
