The Guthrie High School Varsity volleyball team achieved a monumental milestone, claiming their first match victory of the season by defeating NW Classen in three sets at the Shawnee Varsity Invitational.

A special shoutout goes to freshman Natalia Acosta, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for her outstanding performance.

Match Breakdown:

  • Set 1: 25-22 (W)
  • Set 2: 17-25 (L)
  • Set 3: 15-8 (W)

Coach Josh Smith expressed his pride in the team, stating, “It took some time and lots of work this season, but we picked up the first varsity win in program history. Not bad for a second-year program!”

Despite a 1-16 record, this victory will be a cherished moment in the team’s journey.

Looking ahead, Guthrie will next compete in the Lawton Eisenhower Tournament, followed by road matches against Shawnee and El Reno. The Lady Jays will wrap up their regular season with a final home match on October 8th, facing Lawton Eisenhower at 6 p.m.
