The Guthrie Lady Jays softball team is gearing up to host regionals for the fourth straight year, although regional assignments are still pending. Currently boasting a 19-6 record under first-year head coach Kara Tarrant, the Lady Jays have one final regular-season game on the schedule—a trip to Lawton Eisenhower on Thursday. Regardless of the outcome, Guthrie is confirmed to host the regionals, having previously defeated Lawton Ike 12-0 on September 9.

A win in their upcoming match would mark the team’s 20th victory of the season, achieving the notable milestone for the fourth consecutive year. The Lady Jays have been impressive, winning 96 of their last 129 games for an impressive win percentage of 74%.

However, the team has faced challenges lately, dropping three of their last five games, including a 5-2 loss to district rival Altus. Their recent 16-game win streak was halted by El Reno on September 12.

Senior outfielder Haley Gallo continues to shine in her high school career, hitting an astounding .580 with 36 RBIs. The future University of Central Oklahoma Broncho is often pitched to with caution, and remarkably, she has only struck out once in 85 plate appearances.

Sophomore catcher Brylan Shephard has also been a standout, ranking second on the team with a .479 batting average and leading with nine home runs. Sophomores Ryn McCormick and junior Saylor Hamilton are maintaining impressive performances as well, with batting averages of .448 and .418, respectively.

In the circle, senior Kinley Duehning is leading the pitching staff with a 9-2 record and a team-low earned run average of 2.49 over 73 innings. Freshman Holland McLemore and sophomore Savannah Ingle are proving to be valuable assets for the future, with records of 6-2 and 4-2, both sporting earned run averages under 3.00.

The Lady Jays will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, hosting Kingfisher at 5 p.m. The program will honor Gallo, Duehning, Ava Hebensperger, and Saige Driscoll.

They will also participate in the Chickasha Festival on Friday, facing Bridge Creek at 10 a.m. and Edmond Santa Fe at 1 p.m.
