Guthrie Wrestling camps set to sharpen young athletes’ skills

Wrestling season is heating up in Guthrie as two exciting camps are set to take place at Guthrie High School. Aspiring wrestlers from kindergarten through high school will have the chance to hone their skills under the guidance of some of the sport’s top coaches and athletes.

Guthrie Wrestling Kids Camp

Dates: July 8-10
Location: Guthrie High School
Who Can Attend: Boys and girls, kindergarten through sixth grade
Cost: $60 (cash, check, or Cash App; checks payable to Team Guthrie Youth Wrestling)

The Guthrie Wrestling Kids Camp is designed to introduce young athletes to the fundamental skills of wrestling. Over three days, campers will learn and practice essential techniques, including takedowns, top wrestling, and bottom skills. This camp is a fantastic opportunity for young wrestlers to build a strong foundation in the sport.

Standout wrestlers will be recognized with awards, adding an element of excitement and motivation for all participants. The camp boasts an impressive lineup of coaches:

  • Jadon Davenport: Head Coach, 3x State Champion, 2022 Coach of the Year
  • Jeromy Davenport: Assistant Coach, 4x State Champion
  • Shawn Silvis: Team Guthrie Head Coach, 2x NCAA National Champion
  • Alex Fields: Assistant Coach, 3x Freestyle and Greco State Champion
  • Parish Pierce: Junior High Head Coach, State Champion
  • Kaleb Gibson: Junior High Assistant Coach, State Placer

Guthrie Skilled Camp

Dates: July 11-12
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Cost: $75

Following the Kids Camp, Guthrie Wrestling will host the Skilled Camp, targeting more advanced wrestlers looking to elevate their performance. Clinician Gabe Johnson, the 2024 National Champion, and two-time All-American, will lead the camp, providing expert instruction and insights.

This camp is a must-attend for serious wrestlers aiming to compete at higher levels. Participants will benefit from intensive training sessions, focused on refining techniques and enhancing overall wrestling prowess.
