Shawnda Rooney, Economic Development Director for the City of Guthrie, achieved a significant professional milestone by earning the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
This year, Rooney is among just 37 professionals nationwide to receive this prestigious credential, which recognizes her expertise, leadership, and dedication to economic development. The CEcD certification is a globally respected mark of excellence that requires candidates to have at least four years of full-time economic development experience, rigorous coursework, and to pass a comprehensive three-part examination.
Rooney completed core courses covering key areas such as business retention, economic credit analysis, real estate development, and strategic planning. She also passed a challenging exam that included multiple-choice, essay questions, and an oral interview with a panel of current CEcD professionals.
“We are incredibly proud of Shawnda for earning this prestigious certification,” said Guthrie City Manager Eddie Faulkner. “Her accomplishment reflects not only her personal commitment to professional growth but also Guthrie’s dedication to fostering smart and sustainable economic development.”
By joining the elite group of CEcD-certified professionals, Rooney strengthens Guthrie’s capacity to support local businesses, attract new investment, and enhance community growth.
