Guthrie High School’s incoming senior Hayden Simpson left Fargo, North Dakota this summer as an All-American for Team Oklahoma in the 2021 USA Wrestling Junior and 16U National Championships.

Simpson competed in the Greco-Roman division and earned the national award with a seventh place finish. The accomplishment came during the 50th USA Wrestling Junior National Championships, which is a major national high-school competition.

Team Oklahoma finished in 20th place with 24 points.

Simpson, who competed with over 50 athletes in the 285 division, walked away from the national tournament for the most victories by pin.

Simpson joins Guthrie High School Hall of Famer Curtis Jurina, who finished as an All-American five decades ago.

Last season for the Bluejays, Simpson finished 28-9 and finished fourth at the State Wrestling Championships.

On the gridiron, Simpson helps anchor the Bluejays offensive line, who a year ago averaged 36 points per game.
