Micayla Haynes competed in the AAU Junior Olympic Regional Championship’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in doing so qualified for the AAU Nationals in Norfolk, VA.
However, Haynes has elected not to participate, but instead will focus on basketball, off-season drills, and like most young people her age spend the rest of the summer swimming and just having fun.
“My family and I would like to thank everyone for their words of encouragement,” Haynes said.
She competed in the Pentathlon coming in second overall to Jewell Bolden the AAU National Champion for the past three years.
Competing in her first ever pentathlon, Haynes scored 2436 points ranking her 10th in the nation in her age group. She went on to win the 100 meters, placed second in the long jump, and third in the 200 meters.
Great job MICAYLA, keep training hard.
For postseason competition — including the AAU Region 22 qualifier meet at Oakdale High School, June 15 to 18 — the teams were combined to create 5 North.
