Homeowner holds alleged thieves at gunpoint until deputies arrive

A homeowner in eastern Logan County held two men at gunpoint on Saturday morning after he found them on his property with his car dolly hooked to their truck along with his reloading equipment and ammunition.

Deputies responded to the area of Highway 105 and Luther Road at around 8 a.m. and spotted the homeowner blocking the suspect’s truck in his driveway with his vehicle and holding two men at gunpoint. The first deputy on the scene found two males in a small, red and black pickup truck and noticed a car dolly behind their truck.

According to court papers, the deputy asked the suspects what they were doing on the property. The deputy reports they both began to stutter and explained a friend told them to come and get the dolly.

The suspect’s gave the deputy the name “Don” and phone number of the alleged person who said they could retrieve the dolly, but the suspects said they were not able to call out due to a lack of signal. However, the deputy called the number given and the party on the phone had never heard of “Don.”

A second deputy noticed a gray tub filled with ammo and reloading equipment lying on the ground next to the suspect’s truck. The homeowner advised deputies the items were removed from his home two-days previously. Deputies say every room in the residence had been gone through. Property taken from the residence in the burglary are still missing. Deputies were in Payne County on Monday searching for the missing property.

Travis Eli Neely, 40, and Eric Damon Connell, 42, both of Stillwater, are being held in the Logan County Jail on charges of burglary in the second degree and grand larceny.

Both suspects are expected to be formally arraigned on Tuesday.
