IFR revs up to crown world champions

Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma State Fair Arena welcomes the world’s best cowboys and cowgirls as they gallop into Oklahoma City to compete for the world championship title in the 42nd International Finals Rodeo, January 13, 14 and 15. This year history will be made with the introduction of Cowgirls Breakaway Roping. This is the first time the IFR will crown a world champion in this event.

The IPRA is the rodeo industries second largest cowboy and cowgirl association with over 300 rodeos in 30 states and Canada. IFR 42 is touting a record number of Canadian qualifiers; 17 from Ontario, 7 from Quebec. The IFR fuels more than $6 million into the Oklahoma economy with thousands of people from across North America converging on OKC.

In addition to world-class events featuring the top rodeo competitors in the sport, IFR 42 also offers a host of annual events and attractions for all rodeo fans, including the Bucking Stock Sale, IFR Convention & Trade Show, Western Shopping Mall, Miss Rodeo USA Pageant and other events.

Sunday from Noon to 1:20pm OG&E will again sponsor their annual Kids Day. This event allows kids of all ages to visit the arena floor for autographs, pictures and simulated rodeo events such as stick horse barrel racing and dummy roping. Come meet Miss Rodeo USA, the Rodeo Queen contestants and many of the IFR contestants themselves. Plus each Kid 12 and under gets a free cowboy hat and free admission with each adult ticket.

Tickets can also be purchased at the State Fair Arena ticket office, or by calling the Arena Box Office at (405) 948-6808. IFR 42 tickets are family priced at $18 & $30 while kids 12 and under are ½ price. Discount coupons are available at participating Love’s, Taco Bell, Tener’s, Sheplers, and Langston’s Western Stores.
