The Guthrie High School tennis teams, led by head coach Mary Hudson, participated in the 5A Public Schools Championships that was held in Duncan on April 22.
Emma Poupard placed 2nd at #1 Singles. She was seeded 4th but upset Ardmore in the semi-finals to head into the championship match. She lost to Ada in the finals 6-0, 6-2.
Mallory Downs and Rylee Tobin placed 5th, winning consolation at #1 Doubles. In the first round, they played the #2 seed Ada and lost 6-0, 6-2. They won their next two rounds defeating Altus and Durant to place 5th.
Jillian Minter and Lauren Taylor placed 3rd at #2 doubles. They defeated Durant in the first round and then lost to Carl Albert in the second round and they defeated Altus in 3 sets to place 3rd.
Zale Coleman-Hill placed 4th at 1 singles. He defeated Duncan in the first round and he had just lost to him in a previous tournament. In the second round, he gave it his all to play the #1 seed Carl Albert and lost 7-5, 6-3. He was winning his last match, but struggled after his long second-round match and lost his match for third to McAlester, losing in a tie-breaker.
Carson Olmsted placed 3rd at #2 singles. In his first round, he defeated Durant and then lost to Carl Albert. For third, he defeated McAlester in 3 sets.
The girls head to Heritage Hall, Monday, May 1st for regionals.
