The Guthrie Junior Wrestling program has been a key part in the recent success of the high school’s program. This season the Junior High is looking to add even more to the success.
Practice officially started this week at Faver Alternative School. “We don’t have our schedule done yet and some of it depends on football and when (head coach) Woodard can join us,” assistant coach Bryan Couch said.
Coach Woodard serves as the defensive line coach for the Guthrie Football program.
“We have room for every kid and we are wanting a lot of numbers.” Couch said. “We have at least one girl who wants to come out.”
Any 7th or 8th grade student-athlete can come out for the team. Practices are held at the Faver gym/wrestling room. Couch said athlete’s will need to come with a clean tee-shirt, athletic shorts (no jean shorts), wrestling shoes, and or clean socks.
Practices follow right after school and can enter in the West door.
“The high school, junior high, and youth teams are coming together well so we could have a three-headed monster if things come together and keep growing like we have planned,” Couch said.
