Two listed runaway juveniles attempted a car theft in northern Logan County and eventually led law enforcement on a vehicle and foot pursuit that ended in Guthrie.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday from a resident in Orlando who reported two people were trying to steal her vehicle from her driveway.
The two suspects fled the area in the vehicle they came in, a green Chevrolet pickup. Deputies intercepted the suspects southbound from Orlando and attempted to stop the vehicle. At that point, the vehicle was identified as a stolen vehicle from Missouri. The juveniles were believed to have stolen the truck and were listed as runaway juveniles.
The two suspects were reported to have a hunting rifle and a handgun with them in the vehicle.
The suspects led deputies on a lengthy high-speed chase southbound on State Highway 77 from Orlando to Guthrie. The vehicle continued through Guthrie eastbound before driving through a fence at a dead end of University near the Guthrie Golf and Country Club.
From there, the two suspects fled on foot into the unimproved area on the southwest side of the country club lake. A perimeter was immediately established and the two suspects were taken into custody without injury after about 60 minutes on the run.
The stolen vehicle and guns were recovered.
Both juveniles were transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where they will later be transferred to a juvenile detention center.
Guthrie Police, Edmond Police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the heavy rain throughout the pursuit.
