Lady Jays cling to victory as OKC Broncos nearly erase 6-run deficit

Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, the Guthrie High School softball team still held off the Oklahoma City Broncos for a 7-5 victory on Sept. 13.

The Broncos scored three runs in the third inning, but the Lady Jays still managed to pull out the victory.

In the first inning, Guthrie got their offense started when Drew Dodgion singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Guthrie scored four runs in the second inning. The offense came from a single by Dodgion, a fielder’s choice by Karrah Dean and a double by Elaina Clark.

Dodgion pitched Guthrie Bluejays to victory. She allowed six hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out four and walking one.

Dean threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Dean hit one home run on the day in the fourth inning.

Combined the team tallied 16 hits on the day. Karlie Huffer, Dodgion, Trenda LeGrande and Dean each managed multiple hits.

Dodgion and Huffer each collected four hits.

Guthrie travels to Carl Albert on Tuesday for their second match up, before hosting Noble on Wednesday traveling to Woodward on Thursday. On Friday, the Lady Jays will celebrate Senior night when the host Western Heights.

With regional play approaching, the Lady Jays are sitting in second place of the district (8-1) and 15-4 overall.
