Lady Jays collect first win in OKC

The Guthrie girls celebrated their first win of the season with a 43-36 decision over Western Heights on Friday evening in Oklahoma City.

BasketballThe Lady Jays quickly trailed 4-0 in the first 32 seconds of the game forcing a timeout from head coach Pete Papahronis. After that, Guthrie responded with a 14-6 run to end the first quarter and would never trail again.

Junior Kamber Smedley paced her team in the first half with her aggressive play to get to the free throw line. She drilled 6-of-8 from the line and added a field goal and eventually finished with 14 points.

Micayla Haynes finished in double digits as well with 14.

Guthrie built a 37-25 advantage with 5:28 to play in the game, but the Jets made a rally but could not overcome the deficit.
