The Guthrie Lady Jays were back at the OKC Tennis Center, but this time where the tournament hosts for the First Capital Bank Girls Tennis Tournament.
Ada won the tournament and head coach Mary Hudson wanted to be sure to give “a big thanks” to First Capital for helping sponsor the tournament.
Cheyenne Royal, a freshmen, who Hudson said is “playing very hard” lost to Altus 6-0, 6-0 and in the second round she played Stillwater and lost 6-2, 6-4. In her final round, she defeated Carl Albert in three sets. She lost the first set 6-1, then won the second set 7-5 and won a super tie-breaker 14-12 to win the match.
“I am very proud of this young lady,” Hudson said of the freshmen.
In No. 2 singles, Heidi Kuruvilla placed fourth by winning one of her two matches. In the first round, she defeated Deer Creek 6-2, 6-3. In the next round she lost to Duncan 6-2, 6-3 and in her final round she lost to Stillwater 6-4, 6-0.
Brook Powell and Taylar Swartzbaugh placed fourth in No. 1 doubles. In the first round they lost to Deer Creek 6-3, 6-3. In the second round they defeated Carl Albert 6-1, 6-2 and in their final round they had to default due to an injury.
In No. 2 doubles Sarah Howells and Carrisa Mathena placed third with two wins.
In their first round they beat Altus 6-2, 6-3 and then they lost to Perry 6-2, 6-3. In the final round for third they beat Stillwater in three sets.
“They lost the first set 6-3, won the second set 6-4 and won the final set in a super tie-breaker 10-7,” Hudson said.
