Mike Simpson is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Ponca City Public Schools. He came to Ponca City in August of 2008 after working as an administrator in the Stillwater Public Schools for eight years as Director of Athletics and Activities. Previously he has served as a teacher and Head Basketball and Golf Coach in Blackwell and Apache Public Schools.

Mike Simpson was named the new superintendent of Guthrie Public Schools. Along with his wife Kelly and daughter Abigail, Simpson is ready to call Guthrie his new home.
Simpson has served under famous OSU coach Eddie Sutton as head manager and assistant director for the OSU Cowboy Basketball Camp. He also had university level experience serving as Assistant Basketball Coach at Sam Houston State University in Texas.
Listed on the Deans and President’s Honor Roll, Simpson received his Bachelor of Education at Oklahoma State University and his Masters of Arts in Kinesiology at Sam Houston State University. He received his Doctorate of Education from OSU in July of 2010. He currently holds Oklahoma certificates for Superintendent, Secondary Principal, American History, Geography and Government.
At the state level, Simpson currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma State Teacher Retirement System. With $10.4 billion in assets, the system serves over 155,000 active and retired educators in Oklahoma. He is a member of the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators, Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administrators, Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Coaches Association. At the national level, he is a member of the American Association of School Administrators and serves as a member of the Education Committee for the National Council on Teachers Retirement.
During his time in Stillwater, he served as treasurer of the Oklahoma Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and supervised the construction of the Stillwater High School Fieldhouse and Performing Arts Center. He also implemented a student code of conduct for athletics, supervised the implementation of a student activity drug testing program, and was instrumental in the development of a 10-year facility plan for Stillwater Schools. He also developed an integrated computerized system of budgeting, purchasing, scheduling and eligibility for the entire district.
Since his arrival at Ponca City, he has led the formulation of a comprehensive long range facility plan as well as over $18 million in improvements to the district. Also, he has led the districts’ 1 to 1 initiative which is in phase two of five. This initiative, when completed, will provide a computing device for each student in Ponca City Public Schools from grades 8 through 12.
Overall, Simpson has supervised the formulation, passage and construction of over $54 million in bond issue projects in his career.
So very excited that our board of education took the time to find someone of this caliber to lead our district. Now maybe everyone in our community can get behind some investment into the infrastructure of our schools. Let’s get a good plan in place and pass some bonds, and make our schools worthy of the kids that go there.
