Oklahoma’s information technology unification initiative has saved state agencies nearly 100 million dollars in cost savings and cost avoidance.
The latest savings update was provided to members of the House of Representatives’ State Operations Committee during a hearing held today.
Oklahoma Chief Information Officer Bo Reese told committee members that the initiative has passed its halfway point and remains on pace to finish in fiscal year 2017 and pointed the committee members to a recently released report which shows the savings continuing to accelerate.
“State information technology personnel continue to carry out the information technology unification at a responsible pace but in a way the offers tangible and meaningful savings to the state agencies, many of which are facing appropriations reductions in the coming year,” explained committee chairman Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie. “This is a tribute to the Governor and legislative officials who had the foresight to see the need for this reform years prior to the current appropriations shortfall.”
“I am impressed by the vision and commitment of our states’ information technology team and appreciate the valuable service they are providing to state agencies and the taxpayers of Oklahoma,” added committee’s vice-chairman, Mark LePack, R-Claremore.
