Two months ago many rushed out to grocery stores to prepare for the unknown future of the coronavirus. The local sales tax receipts show Guthrie was not the exception.
Sales tax numbers for May — which represent dollar amounts approximately two months previously — increased nearly 24% compared to the same time period a year ago.
For the City of Guthrie, collections added up to $659,577.15 compared to $532,517.90 in May 2019 for an increase of 23.86%.
With four months left in the fiscal year, the City shows an 8.44% increase in sales tax reporting for the fiscal year and nearly 5% above ($210,300) the estimated projection.
The City’s Use Tax was also up with an increase of 7.48% at $59,293.83 compared to $55,165.54 in May 2019.
City leaders cautiously await the next few months reportings after several businesses were put on pause due to the pandemic.
