Local YMCA team finishes 7-1; headed to State

The Guthrie Lady Jays 10-and-under YMCA basketball team completed their regular season on Feb. 4 with a 7-1 season ending record. The team is made up of third, fourth and fifth graders from Guthrie, Deer Creek and Mulhall.

The team is coached by Dannita Duehning.

The Lady Jays played in the Edmond YMCA league, along with another team from Guthrie, Crescent and several teams from Edmond. The team also competed in the St. Mary’s fifth and sixth grade tournament in January.

Next up, the team will compete in the YMCA State Tournament to be held Feb. 18 in Edmond.

“I am very proud of these girls and love that the Y is a place for them to come together to learn sportsmanship and youth development,” Guthrie YMCA Membership/Program Director Kristen Merritt said. “We wish them the best in the state tournament and look forward to watching them grow as a team in the coming years.”
