Local youth golfers off to great summer start

The local junior golf scene continues its run of dominance with many highlights in the month of June. Most recently, in-coming Guthrie High School freshman Brady Hirzel won the 14-15 age division on the South Central PGA Junior Tour stop at The Golf Club of Edmond.

Hirzel shot a +4 (74) to win by a two-shot margin. Prior to that, sophomore-to-be Luke Roach picked up the 14-15 division win at Kickingbird with a stellar 70 score.

Last week at Stillwater Country Club, Luke Morgan finished second in a crowded, impressive field on the SCPGA Player’s Tour with a two-day total of 149 on a highly difficult setup and layout. Last May as a freshmen, Morgan captured second in the 5A high school state tournament.

Recent GHS alum Jarrot Gates has left his impression on the SCPGA with multiple top five finishes.

Earlier in June, sophomore Bo Robbins traveled to Willowbend in Wichita, KS for a Player’s Tour event and came away victorious with a tournament low 75.

The Lady Jays stand-out Sarah Rhinehart has also had success this summer with a top five finish at the Player’s Tour at the Stillwater Country Club.

In the same tournament, junior Luke Dale played great as well as other tournaments in June.

This past school year, the Bluejays finished third at State, while Rhinehart and sophomore Drew Dodgion qualified as individuals on the girls side. Both finished in the top 20.

Many in the community are excited to see elite golf return with talented young athletes.
