STILLWATER, Okla. – Although she did not get to walk across the stage at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the Oklahoma State University campus, a Logan County 4-H’er still received recognition for her hard work during the 99th State 4-H Roundup, which took place virtually.
Abigail Richardson received the $1,200 Brady Benson Memorial Scholarship; $2,000 R.D. Farmer Scholarship sponsored by the R.D. Farmer Endowment; and was named to the Blue Award Group.
A nine-year veteran of 4-H, Richardson is a member of the Mulhall-Orlando 4-H Club. Her main project areas include food science and health/fitness. Throughout her 4-H career, Richardson shared her cooking talents by making meals for charity.
“I’ve helped make lunches for children in my community for the last three summers,” Richardson said. “Through the Regional Food Bank, 30 children were fed every day during the summer and I kept track of food stock and served the children.”
She also conducted 30 workshops that reached more than 750 people. A favorite activity was leading the Ice Cream in a Can workshop at State 4-H Roundup.
Richardson said the skills she learned during her years in 4-H will be used throughout her life.
“Learning how to speak in public through 4-H activities has had a big influence on my life,” she said. “Learning how to lead and learning from failure have made me determined, and public speaking will be vital in the future.”
Other honors include valedictorian of the Mulhall-Orlando class of 2020, Student of Today Award and All Star Cross Country recipient. She plans to attend college this fall and is the daughter of Randy and Sally Richardson.
