Logan County Election Board shares important reminders ahead of November 3 General Election

With the November 3 General Election approaching, the Logan County Election Board is reminding voters of important procedures, identification requirements, and tips to help ensure a smooth experience at the polls.

Polls will be open Tuesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout Logan County.

Logan County Election Board Secretary Sheleen Winscott encourages voters, particularly those casting a ballot for the first time, to familiarize themselves with voting procedures before arriving at their polling location.

What voters should know before heading to the polls

Voters are encouraged to review the sample ballot posted at their polling location and inside the voting booth before making their selections.

If a voter makes a mistake while marking a ballot, election officials advise against attempting to correct it. Instead, voters should return the ballot to a precinct official, who will destroy the spoiled ballot and issue a replacement.

Voters are also reminded that they are not required to make a selection in every race or ballot question. The voting device will count only the selections that have been marked.

Ballots can be inserted into the voting device in any orientation. If the system detects too many selections in a particular race or question, it will reject the ballot and notify the voter. The voter may choose to override the rejection and cast the ballot or request a replacement from precinct officials.

Identification requirements

All voters should bring an approved form of identification to their polling location.

Acceptable identification includes photo identification issued by the federal government, State of Oklahoma or a federally recognized tribe. Voters may also present the free voter identification card issued by their County Election Board when they registered to vote.

Identification containing an expiration date must have an expiration date that falls after Election Day.

Voters who forget their identification or whose names cannot be found in the precinct registry may still cast a provisional ballot after signing an affidavit.

Provisional ballots are sealed in special envelopes and reviewed by the County Election Board following Election Day. Those determined to be valid are counted before election results are certified.

Assistance available at polling locations

Voters who need assistance or wish to use the audio-assisted ballot system should notify a precinct official.

No proof of disability is required to use the audio-assisted voting system.

Winscott emphasized that election officials are available to answer questions and help voters navigate the voting process.

Anyone who believes an election crime has occurred should immediately notify precinct officials or contact the County Election Board rather than waiting until leaving the polling location.

When to vote

While polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., election officials say voting activity is generally lighter during the mid-morning and mid-afternoon hours. However, wait times can vary depending on the precinct.

Voters are encouraged to arrive early enough to avoid last-minute lines.

“Anyone who is in line by 7 p.m. and eligible to vote will be allowed to vote,” Winscott said.

Find your polling location and sample ballot

Voters can confirm their polling location and review a sample ballot before Election Day through the Oklahoma State Election Board’s online OK Voter Portal.

The portal is available at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.

The Logan County Election Board is located at 224 E. Vilas Ave. in Guthrie. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
