The Logan County Sheriff’s Office received official mutual aid requests from the Moore Police Department, on May 20, following the devastating tornado that hit the area. The Sheriff’s Office responded with a crew of twenty deputies to the Moore Command Center.
The deputies were deployed to the area of 4th Street between Bryant and Eastern with the assignment of not allowing people into the damage path immediately south of their position. There were a very large number of completely destroyed homes in the area with resulting natural gas leaks. This provided a terrible safety risk to everyone inside the damage path.
“The property devastation, injuries, and loss of life were staggering to imagine. Please continue to support the victims and rescuers with your thoughts, donations of materials, and your prayers,” Captain Richard Stephens said.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office maintains normal staffing patterns for the county and says will continue to support the rescue and recovery efforts in Moore, and south Oklahoma City, as requested by the agencies in the damaged areas.
“This will be possible through the dedication of the Deputies and staff working on their off hours, and days off,” Stephens said.
