A longtime Guthrie coach added another honor to an already decorated career Friday night as Ric Meshew was inducted into the Oklahoma Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Meshew was one of five members inducted into the 2025 class during a ceremony held on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Joining Meshew in this year’s class were Mike McGraw, Ken Bruno, Mark Kedy, and Dutch VanDenBorn.
Meshew, the head coach of the Jays’ golf team, has guided the Bluejays to four state championships. His teams captured titles in 1992, 1998, 2018, and 2019, along with three state runner-up finishes. His 2020 squad was considered a strong favorite to win a third consecutive championship before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to his success in golf, Meshew has been a part of more state championships than any coach in Guthrie High School history across all sports. He served as an assistant coach on the 1989 state championship baseball team and has been involved in all four GHS football state title teams.
Meshew was inducted into the Guthrie High School Hall of Fame in 2017 and was named the 2017–18 Oklahoma Boys Golf Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Beyond coaching, Meshew is also well known throughout the state for his officiating career in basketball and volleyball.
During Friday’s ceremony, several of Meshew’s former student-athletes were in attendance to watch him receive the honor, a reflection of the lasting impact he has had on generations of Guthrie athletes.
