Madison Dutton received the call from Jays softball head coach Chase Langely. “Do you feel any different today,” the coach asked his senior shortstop. Dutton replied with a curious “no.”
“You didn’t wake up feeling like an all-stater,” Langley asked.
Dutton, who helped the Guthrie softball program to their first state tournament since 1998, was named to the High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (HSFSCA) All-State team.
Along with the all-state status, Dutton was named to the HSFSCA Region II All-Region team for the Large West as well as the All-District team.
Dutton, who will play second base in the all-state game, led the Lady Jays in batting this season with a .472 average. In her four-year career she batted .410, drilled 9 homeruns and 54 doubles, added 114 RBIs and scored 84 times.
Fellow senior Trista LeGrande was named to the all-state honorable mention list.
Freshmen pitcher Karrah Dean was named Pitcher of the Year for District 5A-1 following an 11-3 year in the circle. In her final outing of the year, Dean struck out 10 Pryor batters in the first round of the state tournament.
Junior Hannah Dean was the district’s first team pitcher.
