Man accused of shooting wife formally charged, held on $1M bond

A Guthrie man accused of shooting his wife multiple times over the weekend appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was formally charged in connection with the incident.

Larry Don Chandler, 56, was charged with domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon during an afternoon hearing inside the Logan County Courthouse.

The charge carries a possible punishment of up to life in prison, which in Oklahoma is defined as 45 years. State law requires offenders to serve 85% of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole, meaning Chandler would have to serve at least 38.5 years if given a life sentence.

The court set Chandler’s bond at $1,000,000.00. If he posts bond, he is ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Meanwhile, Chandler’s wife remains hospitalized, recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to her midsection.

Chandler is scheduled to appear back in court on April 10 as the case progresses.

This update follows the original report on the shooting, which led to a standoff with law enforcement over the weekend. For more details on the initial incident, read the full story here: Man shoots wife, engages in standoff with police in Guthrie
