Man and child die in vehicle accident; second child, woman in critical condition

Updated on June 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. — The second of three children involved in the deadly wreck on Wednesday is considered brain dead and is expected to be taken him off life support today, according to a website that has been setup to help the family with upcoming funerals.

The woman involved in the wreck, whom is the grandmother of the children, remains in critical condition following a second surgery.

The smallest child, who was admitted in stable condition, was released to her parents.

Original article on June 22, 2016 at 11 p.m. — A two-vehicle accident on State Highway 74 resulted in two fatalities, including a 9-year-old child, on Wednesday afternoon. A second juvenile remains in critical care.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 74 southbound four-tenths of a mile north of Seward Road just after 3 p.m.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2005 Kia Sedona, driven by Lena Shingleton, 48, of Crescent was southbound on Highway 74. A second vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Brian George, 38, of Crescent was northbound on Highway 74. George departed the roadway left, for an unknown reason, over corrected back into the southbound lanes and striking Shingleton’s vehicle.

George, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected approximately 75 feet from the vehicle. He was transported by mediflight to OU Medical Center, but expired in the medical helicopter due to massive injuries.

Shingleton was pinned for approximately a hour before being freed by the Crescent Fire Department. She was transported by Guthrie EMS to OU Medical Center and admitted in critical condition with head, trunk internal, trunk external, arm and leg injuries.

A 9-year-old male and a 6-year-old male, along with another child, were passengers with Shingleton.

The oldest child, Trent, was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.

The middle child, Albie, was not transported by air due to injuries, but instead was transported by Miller EMS to Children Hospital and admitted in critical condition with head, trunk internal, trunk external, arm and leg injuries.

The third and youngest child was transported by Guthrie EMS to Children’s Hospital  and admitted in stable condition with a head injury.

OHP lists the cause of collision as left of center. The report states the condition of both drivers appeared to be normal.
