Witnesses told Guthrie police officers that Thomas was under the influence and was later asked to leave following a verbal altercation. Thomas was said to have forced his way into the driver’s seat and began driving north on Drexel Street at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, Thomas was seen driving southbound on Drexel St. and reportedly exited the roadway, struck a mailbox, came back into the roadway and struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was said to have been tossed 10 feet into the air by the collision, according to the witnesses.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the vehicle’s description and was able to locate and pull the vehicle over on Interstate 35 near Waterloo Road.

The vehicle was said to have had heavy damage, including a broken windshield, and matched the description at the scene where the pedestrian was struck.

Thomas was taken into custody for driving under the influence

Guthrie News Page has learned the pedestrian left the hospital earlier this week, but still is unable to walk after suffering broken bones, sprains and tears.

Thomas was charged with leaving the scene of personal injury accident, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicating substance and operating a motor vehicle while driver’s license has been revoked.

He was given a $75,000 bond.
