A Bethany man was taken on an air ambulance following a single vehicle accident on Sunday morning.
Emergency crews responded to Interstate 35 at 9:43 a.m. near mile marker 156.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2002 Ford PK was traveling southbound when it left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason.
The vehicle traveled approximately 200 yards before striking a fence and then a tree.
The driver, Taylor M. Heydman, 49, of Bethany, fled the scene and ran approximately one mile before being detained by law enforcement.
Troopers list the condition of the driver as “emotional.”
Heydman was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in critical condition with head, trunk external and arm injuries.
The cause of the accident is listed as unknown.
