Mason Dodd named GPS Student of the Month

Mason Dodd was named Guthrie Public Schools’ Student of the Month for the month of February. He was nominated by Guthrie Junior High School Susan Whitehead.

Mason, a seventh-grade student at GJHS, was nominated for his kindness and selflessness.

“Mason is one of those quiet people who it takes a little effort to get to know,” Whitehead said. “He keeps to himself, but his eyes and ears are always open to what is happening with the people around him.”

She added that each day at lunchtime Mason stands at the front door and holds it open for all the students to come back into the building after their time outside.

“I believe he is following Mr. Bramwell’s (Junior High Principal) lead,” Whitehead said of the principal holding doors open for others.

“Some students say ‘thank you’ but most don’t because they are busy talking with friends. Still, Mason holds the door each day until the last student is inside.”

The district-wide student of the month program is sponsored locally by Foundation Insurance.

Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance presented Mason with a $50 Walmart gift card and spoke to the classroom about insurance.

This is the fifth year of the program that honors students for their character traits.
