Guthrie Mayor Steve Gentling announced at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that he will not seek re-election for another term in office.
“My plan is to serve Guthrie for many, many more years—it will just not be as your mayor,” Gentling told the council during council comments. “I will not be applying to continue on for the next term.”
Gentling, who has served as mayor since 2015, is currently in his fifth consecutive term. The mayor’s term is two years, while council members serve four-year terms.
“I am so pleased and happy with what we have done, and I know that will continue,” Gentling added, reflecting on his time in office.
Those interested in filing for a municipal office can submit a Declaration of Candidacy to the Logan County Election Board on December 2, 3, or 4, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/candidates/candidate-filing.html and the County Election Board.
In addition to the mayor’s position, three of the six city council seats—currently held by Tracy Williams, Kaley Mills, and Jeff Taylor—will also be up for election.
The Primary Election is scheduled for February 11, 2025, with a General Election to follow on April 1, 2025, should a primary election not be necessary.
