Motorists avoid serious injuries in two separate wrecks on Highway 33

A total of five people were involved in traffic accidents over the weekend on Highway 33.

On Saturday evening, westbound traffic was heavy on Highway 33 following the Oklahoma State University football game. A vehicle attempted to turn onto Midwest Blvd., but failed to yield to the oncoming traffic.

The SUV vehicle at fault rolled over and came to rest on its top at the intersection of Midwest Blvd.

With assistance from the Guthrie Fire Department, two females were extricated from the upside down vehicle. Both were transported non-emergency to Mercy Logan County Hospital.

Two male passengers in the other vehicle were not injured.

Texas man runs off the highway

Just before 5 p.m., a Texas driver was involved in a single vehicle accident that sent him out of control over 100 yards.

wreck-10-09-16Emergency crews were dispatched just off of Highway 33, east of the Pine St. and Noble Ave. intersection, for a vehicle up against a bank of trees.

For an unknown reason, the driver of a white SUV left the eastbound lanes, sending him across the westbound lanes, down a steep hill, through a fence before coming to a stop in the tree line.

In total, the vehicle traveled 423 feet off the highway.

The driver was found unconscious behind the wheel, but was cleared medically at the scene by Guthrie EMS.

Somehow, the driver avoided several larger trees just off the highway.

The man, who is working in Logan County, passed a field sobriety test and was released from the scene.
