One person avoided injury Thursday evening after an explosion at a natural gas compressor station in eastern Logan County.
Multiple fire crews responded to the compressor station located three miles south off of Highway 105 on Pottawatomie Rd and near Triplett Road. The explosion forced three homes to be evacuated.
The station, which is owned by DCP Midstream, exploded just before 9 p.m. and it is still unknown what caused the blaze and is under investigation.
The crew member that escaped took off on foot and left his truck near the scene. The truck caught fire just feet from the explosion as the inferno can be seen glowing in the night.
Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow says firefighters needed to let the natural gas in the line burn off before they could safely fight the blaze. The fire was extinguished early Friday, several hours after the blast.
The Meridian Fire Department was assisted by Guthrie and Coyle fire departments. The American Red Cross was also accessed to help firefighters and families at the scene.
