The ceremony was held at the renovated Park and Ride on Oct. 22 with the highway serving as a back drop.
The project originally was for shoulder improvements, but after conversations with the City, the projected expanded with long-term solutions.
The 7-month project that was completed on Aug. 11 not only improve driving conditions, but helped resolve long-standing traffic issues by adding left-turn lanes, improved sight distance for vehicles to turn onto the interstate ramps and traffic signals at the Interstate 35 ramps.
On average, 11,000 vehicles traveled along the highway daily in 2014 and is estimated to increase to 15,400.
