Oklahoma’s tax-free weekend is scheduled for August 2-4, the first Friday through Sunday of the month. This annual event is perfectly timed as parents prepare to send their children back to school. However, it’s important to note that not all school supplies are covered by the tax exemption.
The tax-free weekend kicks off at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 2, and wraps up at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.
During this period, the state sales tax of 4.5%, along with county and municipal taxes, will be waived. According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, any clothing or footwear under $100 is exempt from taxes. However, clothing or footwear designed for athletic activity or protective use will still be taxed.
Oklahomans can take advantage of these savings both in stores and online.
While many items will be tax-free, sportswear and protective clothing are not included in the discount. Shoppers can use coupons during the holiday to bring items under the $100 threshold. For instance, a pair of shoes priced at $110 can become tax-free if a coupon brings the price below $100. However, manufacturer’s coupons are not eligible for this adjustment as they require store reimbursement.
