One teen killed in vehicle accident, two more in stable condition

A two vehicle accident involving five people resulted in the death of a teen and two teenagers admitted in stable condition.

Emergency crews responded to an intersection two miles west and one mile south of Cashion in Kingfisher County on Tuesday just after 5 p.m.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Tony Lynn Pirtle, 37, of Kingfisher was traveling eastbound on County Road EW0850 when it failed to yield.

The truck collided with a 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by a 17-year-old Cashion female, with two passengers inside, was driving northbound on County Road NS2960. The collision occurred in an uncontrolled intersection causing the Liberty to depart the roadway and rolling into a field and the truck entering a ditch.

The cause of collision is listed as under investigation and the condition of the driver as apparently normal.

The female driver was airlifted by a medical helicopter to OU Medical Center after being pinned for approximately 35 minutes. She was admitted in stable condition.

A 16-year-old Guthrie female, who was one of the two passengers in the Liberty, was transported by Kingfisher EMS to OU Medical Center and admitted in stable condition.

The second passenger a 15-year-old male from Piedmont was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The report shows he was the only person not to have been wearing a seatbelt.

Pirtle was treated at the scene and refused transport.

Pirtle’s passenger, Darren Isaac Robertson, 39, of Cashion was transported to Mercy Hospital by Guthrie EMS. He was later treated and release.

The Cashion Police Department released this statement on their Facebook page:

Tonight a young man lost his life on the roads just outside of Cashion. I cannot wrap my head around the coincidence that two vehicles traveled through that intersection at a high rate of speed and met at precisely the same time, colliding.

I ask everyone who travels these roads to do so with due diligence. Obey the speed limits and be ever so aware of the intersections. We lose too many young people in accidents thst could be prevented. The time you think you’re saving by exceeding the speed limit and not slowing down for intersections could get you there on time, but is it worth the risk.

Slow down, leave earlier and pay attention. The life you save, may be someone precious to you.

Our hearts and prayers go out to those involved in this accident and their families. A long road awaits them.
